Grace and Mabel: A distinctive destination for quality and individuality

Three sisters, Shelley, Daniela, and Kirstie founded Grace and Mabel in Bristol in 2007. Starting with a single small boutique in Clifton Village, Grace and Mabel has grown quickly, opening a second shop in Bath in 2010.

Grace and Mabel operates through a retail system consisting of a Magento website and two offline stores in the U.K., one in Bristol and one in Bath. As one of the West’s most prevalent shopping points, it continues to bring individually handpicked fashion items from the world’s top designers to customers.

“We buy only pieces we like, we are very selective. It’s all about quality and individuality” is the business motto that drives their success.

The challenges: Manual work and data discrepancies cost days of stocktaking and customer disappointment.

Wait time for checkout

Stocktaking took 10–14 days.

Grace and Mabel had used Excel sheets to record sales orders and do stocktake for years. Everyone in the shop had to count stock from every brand and manually update the quantities in the Magento backend.

Very time-consuming for uploading to Magento and stocktaking at the end of the year. It's impossible to know the stock in each location frequently. We only know after stocktaking and then lose control afterwards.

Data mismatch led to double selling items.

When an item is sold in their physical store, its quantity isn’t deducted in the Magento backend. As inventory data between their brick-and-mortar stores didn’t match the Magento store, online customers didn’t know what was available and still ordered out-of-stock items. That frustrated both the customers and the store director, Daniela, as she shared this is one of the reasons they decided to figure it out.

Customers had to wait 5–10 minutes for their turn.

Since everything was manual, it often took up to 10 minutes for the store staff to write out a receipt, then remove stock from the Magento backend, and complete a transaction. This caused the next customers to wait longer for their checkout turns.

The solution: A Magento-native POS for real-time data sync backed by dedicated support

A Magento-native POS for a direct connection with the Magento platform

When researching their first POS system after 18 years of operation, Daniela, one of the directors of Grace and Mabel considered Square, Lightspeed, and other providers. However, these solutions didn’t work well with Magento and their connection with Magento was not direct.

Finally, they chose Magestore because of our extensive expertise with Magento. Magestore POS is easy to use, quick, and directly integrates with Magento. After each successful sale, Magestore POS automatically updates the inventory level in the Magento backend to reflect the actual quantity.

An intuitive POS for every user

“The POS is nice and simple to use as it doesn’t have too much information that might confuse you.”

Besides the workable POS software, it’s dedicated and efficient support.

Daniela and her team at Grace and Mabel have been collaborating with us for over a year. We’ve analyzed their business goals, built the project roadmap, tested the POS solution, and implemented the Magestore POS in their flagship store in Bristol.

The Magestore's support team has been really great and responsive. Sometimes I've messaged them very late and there's always someone who responded to me.

The results: Grace and Mabel has saved hours daily thanks to real-time data sync between Magento site and physical stores.

“We now have saved a couple of hours a day.”

Finding items and updating inventory are really quick. We haven't got to keep going back in and removing items from the website. It freed us up in the shop. We now can process orders in minutes with Magestore POS and Dojo payment, depending on how many items customers have.

No more manual work and data inconsistency

The seamless integration of Magestore POS with Magento helps transfer online and offline data smoothly. Daniela and the customers now always know what’s in stock without waiting until the end of the year to perform stocktaking.

Future plan with Magestore: A customizable POS to bring individuality to the well-established fashion retailer and their customers

“We want customers to earn reward points regardless of online or offline purchases.”

On the journey to create a consistent and enjoyable shopping experience, Daniela aims to offer a reward point program for both online and offline customers. She wants to link customer data from retail stores and the Magento store with Mailchimp for easy management.

“So customers can earn points. Once we’ve done that, we’ll turn on the reward points. And I think that’s the feature we’ll use most once it’s all integrated.”

“We’ll use Magestore POS for both stores of course.”

Daniela and the Magestore team are working closely together on setting up barcode scanning and product exchange features to complete the fulfillment process.

We’ve been using Magestore POS for about one month in the Bristol store. I’d rate it 5/5. We’re still learning to use the POS and training our staff. If things go well, we’ll launch Magestore POS for the Bath store as well.
